How can I find out if I have paid PPI?

Even if you don’t have your original documents and don’t know your policy numbers we can still help reclaim your money. We will send a ‘Subject Access Request’ to your lenders which will tell us what credit you have taken out with that lender and what your policy numbers were. We can then ask for copies of your statements that will help us figure out if you were being charged for PPI.

How do I know if I can claim?

It can be difficult to find out if you have been paying PPI and if so, how much. PPI can be called many different names by different providers. Examples are Accident, Sickness and Unemployment cover (ASU), Life & Accident, Sickness and Unemployment cover (Life & ASU), Mortgage Payment Protection Insurance (MPPI), Personal Loan Protection (PLP) or Credit Card Repayment Protection (CCRP) and many others. Luckily our advisers are experts at identifying PPI payments on credit agreements and statements.

How much will I get back?

It’s often a lot more than you expect. PPI was generally charged at around 15% and sometimes as much as 30% depending on the lender. In addition we will seek to claim back any interest you paid on the PPI portion of the credit (at the prevailing rate of the time) PLUS a statutory 8% compensatory interest on top.

How long will it take to get my money back?

From when we first contact your lender to file a formal claim for compensation, the time taken for them to respond can vary and some companies are known to prolong the process as much as they can. However, lenders are required to deal with PPI complaints within 8 – 12 weeks. If we do not reach a satisfactory conclusion within that time we will take your case to the Financial Ombudsman (FOS). Unfortunately this can add many months to the process, but the majority of PPI cases that go to the Ombudsman are awarded in the consumer’s favour.
